Building a Glock 19 pattern pistol on a PF940C
The PF940C is where most people start, and for good reason: the widest slide selection, the most common parts kit and a size that works for carry or range.
The parts list
- PF940C 80% frame kit with jig, rails, drill bits and end mill
- Gen 3 G19 lower parts kit, locking block included
- Complete Gen 3 G19 slide assembly, or stripped slide, barrel, recoil assembly and internals
- 15-round G19 magazines
An evening of work
Pin holes first, through the jig. Rail tabs second, down to the jig surface. Barrel block last, checking slide travel as you go. A hand drill in a vise is enough; a drill press is a convenience, not a requirement.
Where first builds go wrong
Cutting the barrel block too deep, which lets the slide sit low and drag. Forcing the rail modules instead of dressing the tabs flat. Skipping the function check before the first range trip.
Carry considerations
A finished PF940C fits most G19 holsters, but not all: some kydex shells index on the trigger guard undercut, which is shaped differently. Check before you rely on it.
Growing the build
G17 magazines run in a PF940C with the extra length exposed, so the compact frame is the flexible one if you might build a full-size later.
